The new style structured addresses were introduced to replace the old style unstructured addresses. GEDCOM 5.5 (1996) understandably continued to allow the use of old style unstructured addresses for backward compatibility with applications that did not support GEDCOM 5.5 yet. GEDCOM 5.5.1 (1999) continued to allow the old style unstructured addresses. The GEDCOM 5.5.1 Annotated Edition (2018) explicitly deprecated the old style, unstructured addresses. GEDCOM 5.5.5 supports structured addresses exclusively. So that the AddressLine property was removed.
